Wednesday, 16 July 2014 20:57Hours after the wonder has worn off, Victor is beginning to see the lustre fade away from the lights and the progressions of science. He'd been so quick to escape his loft to find supplies for Miss Croft that he hadn't stopped to imagine even the most remote possibility of wandering into another universe without the potential to get back as easily as one might imagine. The morphine is beginning to wear off as day had turned to night, then to day, and Victor wakes to his reflection looking more sallow and bruised than ever.
He rubs at his tired eyes and wonders if his creature wonders where he is. Darkly, Victor wonders if there are any friends left whom Caliban can touch that are not either here or well able to defend themselves and it strikes him as frightening that, for a moment, he isn't sure which outcome he prefers.
Before he begins a day of exploration (in the hopes of perhaps finding a suitable substitute for the morphine), he thinks coffee would be a welcome thing and through the wonders of such elegant service the likes of which he hasn't seen since he was a boy, he finds exactly that in the large dining room.
He eats no food, stomach still turning with nausea. He sits beneath the chandelier again, as if he can hear the hum of electricity and all the possibilities it carries with it.
